I am going to talk about the exciting new features of Elementor 2.0. This is the main reason the news about Elementor 2.0 created a lot of buzzes. What is new, will it be compatible with Gutenberg? Will Elementor launch a theme?

It is important to remember that these new features will not be launched all at once, so if you want to get the latest news, check the description box below this video, for updates. Let’s dive into the features. In short, blocks are pre-designed sections. Even if this is not a new concept for page builders, it is an excellent addition to Elementor. Probably this will be in a way connected with the new WordPress editor called Gutenberg, but if you want a video on Gutenberg, let me know in the comments or just like this video

1. Building The Layout For Your Design

So what can you do with blocks? As a pre-designed layout, blocks will enable you to create landing pages faster. Or any other type of page for that matter. You might as well call this feature SECTIONS. If you save a block as a template, it will be called Section. At first, you might not find the blocks feature as important, but this new level of flexibility will help you build faster and better websites. The problem with importing a full page template was that they came with different fonts, colors and it is a hassle to build something from scratch.

2. Adding New Elements To Your Design

Now you can drag and drop the blocks and only be limited by your imagination. For now, there are 250+ blocks but more are to be added I am sure. Probably third-party authors will work on this too. In the end, blocks will help you work faster. Not listed as a feature but the beta version that we are testing now included a new page template: Elementor Header & Footer How does this work? We can break down a page into the header area, content area, and footer area.

For now, Elementor doesn’t have an easy way to build headers. Probably with Elementor 2.0, we will be introduced to header blocks or footer blocks, giving users a new level of flexibility in design. So, the new page template works the same as “Elementor canvas,” but this time it keeps your theme’s header and footer. The main idea behind it is that you get a full-width layout, no sidebars. I think that this works awesome with themes that let you customize the header and footer area but the content area is built with Elementor.

3. Responsive and Mobile previews Design Controls

The Elementor 2.0 announcement is the Theme Builder as part of your package. What they are doing with a future release, is to bundle all the theme building parts inside the existing Pro version, so you won’t need to buy any other plugin. Just to clear things off, you will still need a theme to run your website, but the design part is where Elementor will take care of the magic. Actually, you will be soon able to customize any area of your chosen theme with Elementor, which is even better.

Probably this is the main hassle with Elementor right now, the theme compatibility, so be sure to pick one that is working with the page builder. Talking about compatibility, in WordPress 5.0 we will have a new editor. Nothing is clear for now, but the team at Elementor said that they are keeping an eye on Gutenberg and Elementor will work it when it will be launched.

4. Detailed layout controls

This is still a great unknown, but let me know in the comments. Did you tried the Gutenberg editor? Never use beta software on live websites. Always test in safe environments like staging or local websites. If you want to test these features and see for yourself what the future holds, you can become a beta tester: There are a lot of promising features following the first releases. One of them is the possibility to create single posts and archive pages. At the time of this video, the way to design a single post template with Elementor is to use third-party plugins.

Let’s hope that this will be part of the core of Elementor. Fewer plugins = better site speed. The same goes for the Customization of your search results and 404 pages. This is considered to be a big miss. But it would be great to use the power of Elementor to have better 404 pages. Powerful design control for WooCommerce shops, product pages, and other e-Commerce pages. Usually, themes come with a limited option to design WooCommerce shops.
