When navigating the vast world of web hosting, you may encounter some major players that can be difficult to differentiate from one another. To truly evaluate the various advantages and disadvantages, one must undertake a thorough examination. In this article, I will be discussing Bluehost and HostGator, comparing their performance, support, pricing, and other important factors. So, let’s get started!
HostGator Vs Bluehost?
When considering HostGator versus Bluehost, the decision is not particularly difficult. The pricing is separated by a mere 20 cents, the resources provided are remarkably similar, and even the support panel is nearly identical. This is due to the fact that Bluehost and HostGator are both owned by the Endurance International Group (EIG), which should come as no surprise to those who have been keeping up with my website.
This company has gained a dubious reputation among web hosting enthusiasts due to their questionable marketing tactics. Currently, the Endurance International Group (EIG) owns over 60 web hosting companies, including Bluehost and HostGator. It is widely believed that EIG prioritizes profits over everything else, cutting corners and discarding underperforming projects to focus on those that generate the most revenue.
HostGator & Bluehost Plans?
Now, you may be wondering why I am discussing this and taking up your valuable time. The reason is simple: I want to emphasize that you are not actually choosing between two distinct companies. Instead, you are choosing between two different products offered by the same parent company. So, which product is superior? For a basic 3-year plan, Bluehost charges $106, while HostGator’s price comes in just slightly lower at $102. It’s important to note that these prices are discounted with coupon codes, which you can obtain by clicking on the links in the description.
Full disclosure: I want to be completely transparent about the fact that if you use the links provided in the description below to make a purchase, I will receive a commission. These commissions are how I monetize my channel without accepting any sponsorship deals. I understand that it may be difficult to trust a review when the reviewer has a financial stake in the products being discussed, and I want to be upfront about it to ensure that you are fully informed before making any purchasing decisions.
Bluehost vs Hostgator Storage?
It’s important to note that I conduct independent testing and research to ensure that I provide accurate and impartial information. So, if you do decide to make a purchase, I encourage you to take advantage of the discounts provided in the description. Now, despite the fact that the prices are almost identical, there are slight variations in the features offered by each product.
To illustrate, HostGator offers unmetered storage, while Bluehost provides only 50GBs. However, it’s worth noting that the storage discrepancy is mainly on paper since unmetered storage is not equivalent to unlimited storage. If you exceed the allotted amount, you may be penalized. In reality, most regular websites that the majority of people have usually range from 1 to 5GBs in size. As a result, 50GBs is not restrictive and might as well be considered unmetered.
Bluehost Vs Hostgator SSL?
Both Bluehost and HostGator provide a free SSL certificate, which is essential in today’s digital landscape. The certificate ensures that the connection between the user and the server is encrypted, and it’s a crucial security feature. In terms of pricing and resources, there isn’t much difference between the two providers. The only notable difference is that Bluehost requires a minimum commitment of 1 year, while HostGator offers monthly plans. Now, let’s dive into the performance aspect. To conduct a thorough assessment, I purchased middle-tier plans from both Bluehost and HostGator and conducted three tests: speed, stability, and stress.
To ensure fairness, I undertook some preparatory work. First, I had to create two identical websites. This is where the differences between Bluehost and HostGator became apparent. Bluehost made the process of creating a WordPress website extremely easy. All I had to do was click on “My Sites,” then select “Add Site,” and choose WordPress. After filling in all the necessary information, Bluehost took care of the rest automatically.
Bluehost Vs Hostgator Dashboard?
After some experimentation, I was able to create a website in about 10 minutes using Bluehost’s user-friendly WordPress setup. However, setting up a website on HostGator was not as seamless. The default installer on the dashboard was not very helpful, and HostGator offers a $100 package to install WordPress for you while you’re on the automatic installer screen. In contrast, I installed WordPress for free in just 3 minutes using Bluehost.
In my opinion, HostGator’s offer to install WordPress for a fee seems like a desperate attempt to make more money, as they are aware that their installer is prone to glitches. Fortunately, there is another option. Clicking the “Launch Cpanel” button takes you to the standard Cpanel, where the third-party Softaculous apps installer is located. This alternative method worked without any issues, and I was able to install WordPress with ease.
Bluehost Vs Hostgator Speed?
After creating an identical website on HostGator to compare with the one on Bluehost, the author used a tool called GTMetrix to test the loading speed of both websites. Surprisingly, HostGator loaded the website faster than Bluehost, with a time of 3.9 seconds compared to Bluehost’s 4.3 seconds. However, both results were not considered very fast, as more premium web hosting services like SiteGround could load the same website in around 2 seconds, albeit at a higher cost. Despite this, Bluehost and HostGator were still considered acceptable for personal websites and offered good value for their price.
The author also tested the stability of both Bluehost and HostGator using Pingdom, which allowed them to monitor their site 24/7 and see any downtime. Bluehost was offline for just 1 minute during the whole week, while HostGator showed no downtime at all. Additionally, the author simulated user traffic by sending 50 bots to both websites, and both hosting plans were able to handle stress without sacrificing speed or stability.
The author then went on to discuss the unique advantages of each hosting provider. Bluehost offers auto-updates with every plan, saving time for those who have multiple websites. They also offer a free website staging tool, which allows users to create a copy of their site to develop and make changes on without affecting the live site. On the other hand, HostGator offers free site migrations, which can be useful for those who want to move their website from another hosting provider.
Overall, the author recommended choosing Bluehost over HostGator in 2023 due to its more frequent updates, better design, and additional features. However, they also suggested considering Hostinger as an alternative, which offers similar pricing to Bluehost and HostGator but is an independent company.
